GHS Alumni Scholarship Fund 2014

General Information

I.  Eligibility Requirements

A.  Applicant must be a graduate of Greencastle High School who attended at least two years at GHS.

B.  Applicant must demonstrate good citizenship.

C.  Applicant’s grade-point average will be considered.

D.  Applicant must be accepted for enrollment, or enrolled as a full-time undergraduate student at an accredited college, trade school or other approved institution in the United States.  Documented proof from that school, including full-time enrollment (10 quarter courses, or 10 semester hours, or equivalent) is required. 

E. The applicant must write a short essay on the reason of financial need as well a summary biography.

II. Application Procedure

A.  The application must be completed in its entirety, including "Support Documents" considered part of, and must be submitted with the application.  INCOMPLETE APPLICATIONS WILL NOT BE CONSIDERED.

B.  All applications must be postmarked no later than March 15 and mailed to:

  C. “Support Documents” include:

1.  If a high school senior, a letter from either the high school principal or the high school guidance counselor which includes the size of the class and the student’s rank in the class.

2. Two letters of recommendation from individuals who can verify your integrity, scholarship and need. These may be from former teachers, ministers, community leaders, etc., other than relatives. If you have previously received a scholarship award from GHS Alumni Association, this is not necessary. (Previous recommendations are kept on file.)

3. If you are a high school senior, attach a copy of your high school transcript signed by the Guidance Director. College students should provide a copy of their most recent transcript.

D. A personal interview may be required

Ill. Award Decisions/Acceptance of Awards

A.  Each applicant will be advised in writing regarding the Committee's decision.

B.  Upon notification of a scholarship award, the applicant must request the college or school he/she will attend or is attending, to forward documentation to the Putnam County Foundation that the applicant is accepted at the college and enrolled in the forthcoming class.

IV. Additional Information:

A. The application is for the one (1) academic year following acceptance.

B.  While previous scholarships have been up to $1000.00 per school year, with one-half of the scholarship amount being paid each semester, the amount of the scholarship to be awarded is the decision of the GHS Alumni Scholarship Fund Committee, subject to change in the number of scholarships and the amount of the scholarship.

C.  Applicant is not restricted to any specific course of study as an undergraduate student.

D.  Applicant, if eligible, may re-apply each year throughout his/her normal four year college term.

E.  Application is not restricted to a single member of a family. Multiple members of a family may apply during the same, or different, academic years.

F.  All guidelines are subject to modification at the discretion of the GHS Alumni Scholarship Fund Committee.

G.  All scholarships will be of equal value.
